Parish Pilgrimage to Walsingham May 2023
On Saturday 13 May, 10 parishioners made the 200 mile journey to the shrine of Our Lady in Walsingham, Norfolk for the annual diocesan pilgrimage. Despite the distance, we made good time and arrived at the National Catholic shrine before noon. There was time for lunch there, a visit to the restored Slipper Chapel and the shop before Mass, celebrated by Bishop David Evans in the Chapel of Reconciliation.
Following Mass, we walked in procession to the site of the holy house in the grounds of the medieval priory where the pilgrimage ended with a short prayer service led by Father Philip from Stourbridge (for anyone who could not manage the walk, the coaches transported them to the priory ruins)
The easy journey there was accompanied by a similarly straightforward return to Bromsgrove, returning at 9pm.
All in all, it was a wonderful day – having the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of hundreds of thousands of pilgrims who, over the centuries, have made their way to Walsingham to venerate our Lady and bring their petitions and prayers to her shrine in Norfolk.
