Church Heating 2021

Report on Repairs to the Church Heating
15th January 2021

The work on fixing the church heating commenced on January 11th. It is anticipated that it will be completed by the end of January. This entails excavating a new route for replacement water pipes that carry water to and from the church to the boiler house situated beneath the Parish centre.

Initially a pilot excavation was carried out in December having enquired of 9 firms to do the work. The pilot holes enabled the pipes concerned to be uncovered and a repair attempted but the mild steel pipes were so corroded that the repair failed. Given the state of the pipes it was decided that we needed to replace them along the whole length using insulated plastic piping and avoiding all underground joints and couplings if possible.

The new pipe work needs to connect with the radiator pipe work that exits from the Sacristy. The old pipe work run exits the Sacristy under the new disabled ramp. So in order to avoid damaging this, the new pipe work will enter the Sacristy along the north wall and the route will need to be excavated accordingly.

There are a few photos attached that show the exit from the boiler house, the track across the lawn, illustrating the parlous state of the old pipe work, and the lifting of the floor in the Sacristy to meet up with the radiator pipes.

The repairs were completed Friday 15th January when a test was due to be run.
