The Club was started in November 2004 with the purpose of raising funds for a memorial to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the building of St Peter’s Church (1858 – 2008).
A consultation with parishioners produced many suggestions but one received more support than any other. Of all those who voted 72% opted for stained glass. It was decided to erect stained glass in the Church’s west wall rose window. Again following the majority vote the depiction in the window was to be a dedication to the English and Welsh Martyrs of the penal days. A reading of our ‘parish history’ will show that our parish and the area are intimately bound up with the lives and ministry of several martyrs.
