At St Peter’s we have a variety of options for faith development for our
youth.
PETER’S ROCK YOUTH GROUP
YEARS 4-8
If you are in Year 4 to Year 8 you can join our Middle School youth
group: Peter’s Rock.
This group meets in the Parish Centre twice a month on Friday nights
from 7-9pm. The youth leader is Alison Wickham and she is supported by a
variety of volunteer helpers. The group meets for a mixture of games and
organised activities, ending with night prayer. Occasionally the group goes on
trips to the Hollywood Bowl as well as an annual retreat to the diocesan youth
centre Alton Castle.
Peter’s Rock also has a mixed youth football team, which trains every
fortnight from October to May and takes part in Deanery football tournaments.
This group is run by Mick Kehoe and his focus is on teamwork and good
sportsmanship. Youngsters with special needs are most welcome.
Both Mick and Alison hold Enhanced CRB certificates and both are
qualified First Aiders. All volunteer leaders also hold Enhanced CRB
certificates.
TEENLIFE
YOUTH MINISTRY FOR YEARS 9-13
TEENLIFE is a new venture for the parish and is a youth ministry which
aims to enable young people explore their Catholic faith and respond to the
challenge to live their Catholic lives to the full.
The group will meet every Sunday from 5.30-7pm in the parish centre from
mid May 2009. The group is open to every young person of the parish and their
friends. Young people will be invited to take part in the diocesan trip to
Lourdes in Year 12 as well as World Youth Day from the age of 18. It is
envisioned that a significant part of this youth ministry will be responding to
the challenge of Christ to reach out to those in need and the group will
actively seek to be involved in practical charitable activities.
In addition to Sunday TEENLIFE nights the group will have the
opportunity to have retreats and activity holidays in which to explore their
place in the world as well as trips and fund raising events.
YOUNG ADULTS
While there is no facility for specific outreach to young adults, we
invite all young adults to involve themselves in either Peter’s Rock or
Teenlife. All our young adult parishioners are invited to join with Teenlife
for World Youth Day, especially if they are at Universities without a Catholic
Chaplaincy with whom to attend this event.
The next WYD will be in Madrid in 2011.
CAN YOU HELP?
If you are an adult who feel God is calling you to help in this most
important and valuable ministry, please contact either Alison .
All Youth Ministry in the Parish of St Peter is supported by the
Birmingham Catholic Youth Services and we particularly thank our Area Youth
Officer, Sarah Crowley, for all her support over the years.
